6 Weird Ways To Make Money

By Ashley Henshaw. May 7th 2016

With jobs as scarce as they are today, many people are looking for out-of-the-box ideas when it comes to making some money. After all, many jobs that are often taken those who are scraping by – restaurant server, bartender, customer service, etc. – have so many applicants these days that it’s tough to even come by one of those positions. Fortunately, there are a few oddball ways to make a few bucks, especially if you’re willing to go outside your normal comfort zone.

Advertise With Your Personal Property

Are you willing to have your car or your home plastered with an ad for a business? Then you may have found an easy way to pick up some extra cash. Unusual ads like those placed on personal property tend to attract a lot of attention so some companies are willing to pay a decent amount of money for the right to use your space to advertise their products or services. In more extreme cases, people have even made money by advertising for a business right on their body. According to MSN Money, in 2011 Marc Ecko offered a 20 percent lifetime in-store discount for those who got the brand’s logo tattooed on them.

Sell Your Hair

Chopping off your hair could give you more than just a new look if you decide to sell your hair. Many companies are looking for hair to make wigs and hair extensions, and some artists even use hair to make works of art. If you have a type of hair that’s a little less common, you may have better luck, but it’s worth a shot for anyone with long locks who’s willing to cut them off. MSN Money reports that many online forums facilitate these deals for about $300 to $900. In 2008, one woman managed to make $1,200 for 27 inches of her hair.

Become A Test Patient

Clinical trials are one of the easiest ways to make money. The downside is that they can also be a little risky. There are lots of different trials, many of which involve taking pills which are either real or placebos (though you won’t be told which kind you’re getting). MSN Money reports that applicants can earn between $50 and $5,000 per trial depending on the study. Whatever the situation, make sure that the clinical trials you take part in are being conducted by a legitimate medical facility with trained professionals. If you want to play it a little safer, see if there are any medical facilities looking for patients who will take surveys, undergo psychological interviews, etc. You probably won’t make as much money, but you won’t be taking experimental medicines either.

Dig For Diamonds

If you’re willing to put in some elbow grease, then a trip to Murfreesboro, Arkansas may be just the ticket to getting some quick cash. The Crater of Diamonds State Park is there, and for just $7 you’re allowed to come in and mine for diamonds and other gems. It’s no guarantee, but there have been some big finds there in recent years. In 2008, one man found a 4.68 carat diamond there.

Sell Your (Used) Underwear

There’s actually a rather large market for used panties on sites like eBay and Craigslist. And it’s not just for celebrities, although those pairs of used undies regularly go for thousands of dollars. For most ladies’ panties, a used pair can go for about $20-$30, with the price being set a little higher for those which have been worn longer. It might take a little effort to ignore why people want your used panties in the first place, but there’s definitely a market for it.

Sell Your Body Parts

This one sounds a lot worse than it is, but in many cases it can be relatively painless. For example, many large cities have clinics where you can donate your plasma for around $35 up to two times a week. Men can also choose to donate their sperm to earn around $40 per donation. Women can sell their eggs to help infertile couples for a whopping $8,000, and for certain candidates (those who are well-educated, those in certain ethnic groups, etc.) that rate can go up to $25,000 or more. However, before doing using any of these procedures to make money it’s helpful to speak to a health care professional to learn more about the consequences and how it might affect your personal health.

There are definitely some interesting ways to make money out there, but be sure you’re not too enticed by get-rich-quick schemes that are too good to be true. Some of these options may work out wonderfully for many individuals, but it’s important to evaluate how using these methods could affect your lifestyle and whether they are right for you.
