Overview

Owning a major credit card is a financial decision that many people make for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons would be during certain purchases, where it is better to provide a credit card rather than carrying a huge amount of cash with you. The other reason is you need it in cases where a credit card is mandatory, such as to rent a car.

In 1958, Bank of America launched its pioneering BankAmericard credit card program in Fresno, California. The original goal of the company was to offer the program in California only. However, in 1965, the bank expanded and began subscribing the licensing agreements with a group of banks outside California. Then eleven years later, various other banks licensed to use the BankAmericard credit system from the service provider, forming a network of banks backing the system across the United States. Later the system obtained the name "VISA," which was originally created by its company founder Dee Hock, and now, it's recognized all over the world.
